MaxiVista is a specialized software solution developed by Bartels Media GmbH that allows you to expand your primary computer’s screen real estate by using the display of a secondary computer or laptop over a local network. It creates a virtual display adapter on your main machine, allowing you to drag windows seamlessly onto your secondary device as if it were a physically connected monitor. Prerequisites for Setup
Before installing, ensure your hardware and network meet the requirements:
Operating System Note: MaxiVista is optimized for legacy Windows environments (such as Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7). When active, it typically disables the Windows Aero theme and switches your system to “Windows Basic” mode.
Network Connection: Both computers must be connected to the exact same local area network (LAN) via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Firewall Access: Ensure your security software allows MaxiVista traffic through on both systems. Step-by-Step Installation & Configuration
Setting up MaxiVista requires a dual-part asymmetric installation process: 1. Install the Server Component
Download the software bundle directly onto your primary computer (the PC you want to expand).
Run the installer. During this setup, specify how many secondary screens you intend to add.
The installer will generate a custom Viewer program file (viewer.exe) on your primary PC. 2. Install the Viewer Component
Locate the generated Viewer program file on your primary PC.
Copy this file onto a USB flash drive or transfer it over your network to the secondary computer (e.g., your old laptop).
Run the Viewer program on that secondary machine. It will go into a “listening” mode, waiting for a signal over your LAN. 3. Establish the Connection
Right-click the MaxiVista tray icon on your primary PC’s taskbar.
Select the option to discover and link to the active network viewer.
Your primary Windows OS will flash briefly as it initializes the new virtual display adapter. 4. Align the Displays
Open your primary PC’s display configuration menu through the MaxiVista tray options or the Windows Control Panel.
Arrange the virtual screen position (left, right, or stacked) to match how your secondary monitor physically sits on your desk.
Match or adjust the resolution properties to fit the capabilities of the secondary screen. Core Modes & Feature Capabilities
